Teva helping those afflicted with Parkinson’s

By nakedisraeli
In the 7 years that I have been covering economic news from Israel, I have only heard the pharmaceutical company Teva discussed in terms approaching awe. One former employee told me, “Teva never makes a mistake. Other successful companies sometime fall down but never Teva. “
This prescient comment proved true today. Teva announced that its drug Azilect is the first drug to slow the onset of symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Until now, there was no hope for the 4 million sufferers of this incurable, debilitating disease.
Azilect has been co-developed by a teams of scientists from the Technion and Teva.
In addition, Teva announced that Copaxene,  became in the first quarter 2008 the number one global treatment for multiple sclerosis.

I have been using Azilect since it first became available in the US for my patients. Actually, I was prescribing it before that and had several patients getting it directly from Israel before the US release. I think it is relatively safe, if you look at the trials. This is the third published, peer-reviewed report that supports Azilect’s neuroprotective effects. I am a big believer; I want to provide additional years of high-quality life to my patients.
