Laura, your comments are interesting - i.e. what you have to say, how you respond, and what you DON'T say (but I "feel"). My feeling is that you sincerely care about the world and want to do something to improve it. Though "others" in your profession may not do for/with money what you wish they would do, your continuing to do what you seem to believe in your heart is the RIGHT thing to do, that is different from the others, IS VERY IMPORTANT, so don't give up. The 11 suggestions you sent to the SEC, on how they can improve their agency, is just one example (I read a brief blurb in the NY Post regarding Bernie Madoff and your having attempted to warn people about his Ponzi scheme - March 1st). As an example, I have a program, PROVEN to be successful in Russia, the US, and elswhere under very dangerous conditions/circumstances, that is the key to the resolving of serious global problems such as leadership, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, terrorism, conflicts (racial, ethnic, religious, sectarian, gang, class, gender, etc.), health care, education, and MUCH more, all of which lead to the solving of the financial crisis. Like you, no one wants to listen to me who should. These are weak people in leadership positions who prove on a daily basis they are NOT leaders. You must never let people like that stop you. "THEY" are as much in need of our help, as are those who clearly need help, though their "image" is not that of being in need. People like us are a threat to them, not realizing we want to help them change and succeed for the betterment of all people, not just for themselves. I was hated when I first went to Russia, but when the Russian people (military, mafias, government, politicians(!), educators, biznessmen, scientists, general public, and others) finally believed I sincerely cared about them and their country, the Russian people opened their hearts, minds, and arms, and we succeeded TOGETHER, magnificently. You/we must not give up in our efforts to make a better world, regardless of the "obstacles" we must confront and overcome. Ultimately, it will be people like us, working together, who will make the positive global change that will benefit ALL people that has always been possible if the right people were brought together. Laura, the problems of the world are caused by people, not by a lack of resources. Take care of the people and they will take care of the problems (and no one takes care of people better than we do). That is just too simple a concept for our multitudes of over-educated, non-life-experienced, people considered to be "leaders", "experts", policy-makers, "authorities", etc., ad nauseam. To quote a 10 year old boy: "All these wise people, with all these wise words, and everything is getting worse."!!! Action, that is sincere and knowledgable, is needed, not the endless rhetoric of what is already known, common sense, and obvious. Send me an email if you are interested in our, and others, working together. Be positive, strong, healthy, aggressive, and smile often. TONY

I don't know if you are a fan of Doctor Who. But there was an episode where they went to the Blitz and Rose told someone there that she was born in the England of the fulture. But you can't be, she replied saying that Rose doesn't sound German.

What was meant was that if you were looking at things from the perspective of being in the middle of the Blitz you couldn't be faulted for thinking that England was at its end and that Germany would win the war. Well of course that didn't happen.

In the next four years it is going to be hard not to think that America is at its end. In fact to say otherwise will make you seem like a fool with so much evidence to the contrary. Of course America is at it's end.

Well, if you lived in 1979 and someone told you that in ten short years the Soviet Union would be at its end and the Berlin wall will fall you would and almost rightly so be considered insane.

But then came Reagan.

The next four years will be extremely hard. Time and time again Ahmadenijad and the other America haters out there will be proved right. America will be seen as weak. America will be pathetic. It would be stupid to place your bets with America and indeed I don't know if Israel will survive this time.

But then came Reagan.

This time Reagan might actually go under the name of Palin or Jindal but out of middle America someone will rise up to take things back and we will even come out of it so, so much stronger. I can't imagine how much things will have changed fourteen years from now and even if I could you would most likely consider me insane if I could tell you.

But to get there we have to get through this and just like well in the end the Nazis were defeated just think how a Jew in Germany must have felt during the height of his power. Things just got worse and worse and there was no end in sight. And while in the end we have the perspective of history to tell us that good eventually wins, for so, so many that victory that end came too late. From their perspective evil did prevail at the end just like Ahmadenijad will prevail, I have no doubt about that. For a period of time only but for many that period of time will be all too long.

But for those who survive, next comes Reagan. We have a great future to look forward to but first the Hell.

Well you see America and Western Civilization is declining.

If we can hold out perhaps we can turn things around. But that won't happen for four years. Up to that point things will be declining.

So, it is going to be pretty hard for people not to think that America is at its end. And perhaps, perhaps they might be right.

But one thing one must remember. After Carter came Reagan.

I believe that the current decline is necessary for the backlash to occur that will save America. Just like it says about a drunk needing to hit bottom before he can pick himself up.

I have to hope that we can come out of this as a Phoenix stronger than ever like what happened with Reagan after Carter.

As for Israel, well just like Carter lost Iran, the legacy of the Obama administration might just be losing Israel.

As I Brit, I disagree. Blair was replaced by Brown thorugh an internal election - and both are unpopular. Bush won his first election due to some hundreds of missng votes in Florida.
People in Israel forget that democracy is not perfect. each variant has good and weak sides. The election of Livni, assuming it stands the test of legal challenges, is as good as any way to vote a replacement for Olmert.
Otherwise, we will be having a general election every 6 months

I don't see where Daniel Pipes called Obama a Muslim. He did quote sources to explain why other people might consider Obama a Muslim, Muslim-friendly, or an apostate. Are you disputing the sources? ("Lee Smith of the Hudson Institute explains why: 'Barack Obama's father was Muslim and therefore, according to Islamic law, so is the candidate.'")

Wow...harsh...I don't think you have to worry about Nbn calling you to be in any ads for them.... ;)

I agree and don't agree with you. In my previous apartment I didn't know (or want to know) anyone. My current place, I'm friendly with all but one of my neighbors, and I would knock on their door for help in a second.

At the park today, a woman still said to another, "your baby is asleep, put him back in the crib" and on Thursday when two elderly ladies fell over on the bus (the driver was cut off...it truly wasn't his fault) many people were checking on them, and one guy even yelled at the driver to wait for them to get seated before continuing on. (One of the ladies was Anglo, the other Russian.)

I do agree it is a wakeup call, but I'm not sure for whom.

Just two little points...Netanyahu said he thought the US system wouldn't work, but a system closer to the German system (which I don't remember how that works...)

second...I don't think Zavi convinced us all....
